BlueParrott:
How do I customize my BlueParrott button on my headset to PTT with the 75 All Road?
To configure your BlueParrott headset to PTT with the 75 All Road, you will need to download the BlueParrott App and select “Cobra PTT” in the Menu options. You can find these instructions on cobra.com: cobra.com/ptt
Do I need a BlueParrott headset to PTT with the All Road?
You do not need a BlueParrott headset to PTT with the All Road. You can pair and use any compatible Bluetooth headset.
What is the difference between using a BlueParrott headset over other wireless headsets for use with the 75 All Road?
BlueParrott has a customizable button (the “BlueParrott Button”) that is customizable to PTT with the 75 All Road. Without a BlueParrott headset, you will need to use the All Road handset or the All Road Wireless PTT Button to communicate with others over the All Road. Having the option to customize the BlueParrott button allows you to PTT directly from the headset and also switch between phone calls and CB communications while driving.
Why do I hear CB radio sound during a phone call when using a BlueParrott headset?
Due to multipoint, and what profiles your headphones support, performance can vary across the many different Bluetooth headphones on the market. If you are experiencing noise or sound while on a phone call – or streaming, you can turn the All Road volume OFF or turn the squelch all the way up to block incoming noise from the CB.
My BlueParrott headset is configured to One Touch PTT. What happens if I accidentally press the BlueParrott button – will I jam the channel?
If the BlueParrott button is accidentally pressed while in One Touch PTT mode, the 75 All Road is designed with the Timeout Timer feature, which will automatically end or cut transmission on an open channel after 5 minutes (or it will cut off after the time you have adjusted in the Timeout Timer menu settings).
----------------------------------
Operation/Troubleshooting:
What is VOX and how does it work?
VOX stands for ‘voice activated transmission’ or ‘voice-operated exchange’ and is used to broadcast without having to use PTT. The advantage of this feature is you can talk hands-free. How it works is, when VOX is enabled, the microphone listens for your voice and when you start talking, the All Road automatically starts transmitting and stops when you finish talking. VOX is useful for communicating without the use of your hands to operate the All Road. It is useful while driving or in situations where you need to keep both hands on the wheel. Please note that VOX can trigger from high background noise levels. In this case use normal PTT to control the transmitter.
Why is my headset not working with the All Road VOX feature?
The 75 All Road VOX or ‘voice activated transmission’ feature is only supported through the All Road handset and is not supported with a 3rd party headset (you cannot use your headset microphone to use the VOX feature).
When I turn my 75 All Road handset ON, all I see is the Cobra logo, what do I do?
Disconnect power to the Black box. Plug your handset into the black box USB jack and then reconnect power to the Blackbox. Push and release the Handset power button if needed to power ON the All Road. After a few moments the Handset should display normal CB standby mode.
Connecting your handset to the black box will re-establish Bluetooth Pairing.
What is Digital Signal Processing?
Digital Signal Processing is software enhanced noise filtering that produces better sound. In the All Road, DSP delivers improved speech intelligibility when transmitting and when receiving. The DSP levels can be increased or decreased in the MENU under the NR RX (Receive) and NR TX (Transmit) options.
How do I know DSP is working? …or how do I know DSP is ON?
DSP is set to ON and the DSP level is set to 1 out of the box for both RX (Receive) and TX (transmit) modes. You can see DSP is ON by the ‘NR’ on the display. You will see ‘NR’ on the display for both RX and TX (you must press the PTT to see ‘NR’ on the display in TX mode). DSP levels can be turned OFF or adjusted by clicking on MENU and selecting ‘NR RX’ (to adjust DSP in Receive mode) or ‘NR TX’ (to adjust DSP level when transmitting). While you will notice DSP’s benefits at level 5, you may want to adjust depending on the noise conditions inside your vehicle or from the incoming signal.
How do I adjust DSP?
There are two audio DSP audio paths on the All Road. One is for receiver audio (RX). The second is for transmit microphone audio (TX).
Receiver DSP adjustment guideline:
- Start with “RX NR” level set to 01 (default). If the background audio noise level is still to high then consider stepping up the level to 02 and then do another listening test.
- If the receiving station has a weak signal level and the voice sounds unintelligible, try reducing the RX NR level. If the level is set to 01 and the voice of the receiving station is still to distorted or is uncomfortable to listen to then try turning OFF RX NR. Very week stations are more challenging to the DSP algorithm to process effectively.
Transmitter DSP adjustment guidelines:
- TX NR or transmitter microphone DSP is meant for the benefit of the station that’s receiving the All Road transmissions. If the All Road is operated in a very high noise environment, then TX NR level 05 is recommended. This will provide the highest-level microphone audio signal to noise processing. This means the background noise is greatly reduced which in turn enhances the operators voice and will improve the receiving station’s ability to clearly hear the All Road operator. Radio’s that lack this powerful DSP technology will have greatly reduced intelligibility of the radio operators voice with the effected of diminishing the effectiveness of two-way radio communications.
- In very quiet operating environment like a home base station, there will be little benefit to using the DSP processing. TX NR level 01 or turning OFF are operating considerations.
Why does the screen freeze on my All Road handset?
When the screen freezes on your handset, pairing is lost to the transceiver or ‘black box’. To restore the connection, plug your handset into the black box USB port, then power ON the handset and wait for the handset to enter CB radio standby mode. This connection automatically sets up Bluetooth pairing between the handset and black box. Once paired, the Handset can be disconnected from the black box USB jack and powered through another power source inside your vehicle (via the USB or the supplied 12V adapter) and will remain connected to the black box.
How do I know if my handset is connected to the black box?
You will know if the 75 All Road handset is connected to the black box via the ‘LNK’ icon at the upper right corner of the Handset LCD. If ‘LNK’ has a line through it, this tells you connection is lost. If ‘LNK’ appears and the handset screen is frozen or not responding, turn off the handset and plug it into the black box directly to re-establish connection. Power the handset ON and you should see ‘LNK’ appear on the display (showing you are reconnected).
What is the range of the All Road CB?
Vehicle to Vehicle (point to point) range is typically about 2 to 4 miles. The best range performance can be realized by installing a highly efficient CB antenna.
What is the purpose of having both AM and FM modes?
A CB radio that supports AM and FM offers backward compatibility with older, AM only CB radios. FM for CB radio is the way of the future!!!
Why can’t I hear any sound coming out of my handset?
If you have adjusted squelch and volume and you hear no sound, it is most likely your headset is connected to the All Road and in range. This can easily be resolved by turning off Bluetooth in your SmartPhone. If you want to keep your cell phone connected, then you can switch the audio path by pressing and holding the ENT/MENU button to open the Menu options, select BLUETOOTH>>AUDIO PATH and changing it to “HANDSET” by using the UP or DOWN arrow keys. You can also look at the display – if your CB is routing audio through your handset, the ‘HD’ icon will display. If a headset is connected, ‘HS’ will show on the display.
Can I use my existing CB antenna with the 75 All Road CB being dual mode AM/FM?
Yes you can use your existing antenna system with the All Road and plugs into the antenna port on the back of the CB.
Is the All Road waterproof?
The 75 All Road is IPX6 rated and rated ‘waterproof’ when the handset is connected and “locked” to the black box. When the handset is disconnected from the black box and powered through the 12V power adapter or plugged into a USB port in your vehicle, the radio itself remains waterproof but water may be able to penetrate at those alternative power connection points.
Does the 75 All Road include FM?
Yes, dual mode AM/FM is included in the All Road.
Wireless Headset/Wireless PTT:
How does handsfree work with the All Road?
The 75 All Road is compatible with the All Road Wireless Push-to-Talk Button, which is an external PTT button and sold separately on cobra.com. When connected with a wireless headset, the All Road PTT button allows you to push-to-talk without having to reach for the All Road handset to PTT while driving. The Wireless PTT Button includes a Velcro strap that wraps and attaches to the steering wheel that allows PTT at your fingertips.
How do I disconnect my headset from the All Road?
To unpair or disconnect the headset from the All Road, go into Menu settings: Press ENT/MENU>>BLUETOOTH>>PAIR>>HEADSET>>DISCONNECT.
Can the All Road pair to my Smartphone?
You can pair the All Road to a wireless headset but not to a SmartPhone. You can use the All Road with a multipoint headset to switch between phone calls and CB communications, which is convenient for road trips.
Why can’t I hear anything coming out of my headset?
You may need to pair your headset to the All Road <supply link to QSG> or
may need change the audio path. To check or change the audio path on the All Road by selecting MENU on the keypad then in your Menu options select BLUTOOTH>AUDIO PATH and you will see which audio path you are connected.
I answer a phone call on my SmartPhone and hear no sound. I am not using the All Road or my wireless headset. Why is this happening?
You may still be connected to your wireless headset or in range with Bluetooth®. Go to your Bluetooth settings in your phone and turn off Bluetooth and this should restore audio in your SmartPhone.
All I hear is static on my wireless headset when I stream or want to watch a video, why?
When your headset is connected to the All Road and you receive a phone call, your headset will default to that incoming call. However, streaming, video or any other audio from the phone becomes secondary to the All Road, meaning your headset will default to the All Road. In order to use your wireless headset with your phone for streaming, video or music, you will need to turn the volume on the All Road CB to OFF or turn the Squelch setting to the maximum level.
Do I need the All Road Wireless PTT button with my BlueParrot headset?
When the BlueParrot headset is configured to PTT via the BlueParrot button, you do not need to purchase and use the All Road Wireless PTT Button (this is optional).
Do I need the All Road Wireless PTT Button with my Bluetooth headset?
The All Road Wireless PTT Button is convenient to talk handsfree while using a wireless headset but it is not required. Having the wireless PTT option is convenient because it attaches to your steering wheel and give you a PTT solution at your fingertips without having to reach for the handset to PTT while driving.
What is the purpose of having the All Road Wireless PTT Button?
The All Road Wireless PTT Button attaches to your steering wheel allowing you PTT access at your finger tips while driving. This is convenient and safer, since you don’t have to reach for the 75 All Road handset to PTT to communicate.
My All Road Wireless PTT button is configured to One Touch PTT. What happens if I press the wireless button accident – will I jam the channel?
If you accidentally press the All Road PTT Button when paired to the 75 All Road and it is set to One Touch PTT mode, the 75 All Road CB is designed with the Timeout Timer feature, which will automatically end or cut transmission on an open channel after 5 minutes (or it will cut off after the time you have adjusted in the Timeout Timer menu settings).
