Is my camera compatible with Drive Smarter?

Cobra's SC Series cameras (SC100, SC120/110, SC120, SC 200/200D, SC201, SC220C, SC250R, and SC400/400D) are compatible with Drive Smarter. Drive Smarter does not support legacy Cobra dash cameras (DASH Series, CDR Series) at this time.

 

Do I need to pay for Drive Smarter?

No, Drive Smarter is a free service provided to users of our SC Series cameras.

 

Why am I having trouble connecting the Camera in Drive Smarter?

You may have previously established a Bluetooth connection with the camera. If this is the case, please go into your phones OS Bluetooth menu and 'Unpair' your camera from your phone.

 

How can I use the MayDay feature?

Simply enable the G-Sensor and Mayday setting on your camera, andenter your Emergency Contact info into Drive Smarter. From there, Drive Smarter and the Dash camera will take care of the rest. If the camera detects that you have been in a serious collision (Level 5 G sensor event) it will automatically lock the latest recording and notify your emergency contact. 

 

How do I connect my camera via WiFi?

You do not need to manually establish a WiFi connection to your Dash Cam. Drive Smarter uses Bluetooth to automatically manage connection types depending on which feature you are using within the app. If you are using a feature that requires WiFi, the app will walk you through establishing a a Bluetooth connection. Note: Older Android Operating systems (Android 6, 7, and 8)  may prompt the user to exit the app and connect via the OS WiFi menu.

Crappy for the price

"For a dash camera that cost almost $200. You would think you would be more user-friendly and more flawless. The set up was easy, but everything else about this camera is straight garbage. The app is so slow to connect to the camera, if you want to review any of the videos, you have to have the car running and be next to the camera to view them, when you try to use the Forward collision, warning and other special features such as the lane departure warning, they suck. They constantly beep at you even when you’re not doing anything. The collision warning goes off when there’s nobody even in front of me. The lane departure warning goes off when I’m in the middle of my lane and does not show the correct lane. For example, if I’m leaving my lane to the right, the cameras detect the left side and vice versa. The live cup detection feature detect cops when there’s not even a cop nearby. Too many issues for a camera that cost this much money. Cobra is a well-known brand of a lot of other equipment, but they should not make another dash camera they should stick to what they do best. I am very upset with the quality of this camera. I wish I never spent the money on it"

Product is not meant to last

"I got this Camera March 2023. It worked well at first. After 2 years it started taking bursts of pictures. I would turn my car on and after a few minutes made the shutter sound like it was taking pictures. It happened intermittently for next few months then turned off. The camera screen turns on for a few seconds and turns off. Customer service will tell you its a corrupt SD card, which it isnt. They will tell you look for firmware update, there aren't any. Go figure tons of people on reddit and online have the same problem and Cobra doesn't offer any other solutions other than buying another camera. Good luck if this problem happens before 2 years you'll get some compensation but 2. 5 years you're on your own."

SC 201 flaws

"Cobra is a trustworthy brand, however, this piece seems like far from what I expected. The setup is judicious and the functionality is least appreciated, much more, the app is not user friendly at all. I don’t know what this piece was intentionally made for coz I expected it to be an ‘eye’ in the road. Neither the clips that was recorded is not easily retrievable though the connection has a Bluetooth and WiFi built in the system. The system itself works so slow ."

Nice Cam for Classic Car

"I was looking for a dash cam for my classic car to replace a Garmin. I looked at Cobra because it is a trusted brand. Selected the SC201 Cobra primarily for the duel camera and navigation since my car didn't have. Cam was easy to set up and connected easily to my phone. I use the adjustable cabin camera to record out the back window without running another camera out the back. Picture quality is pretty good (1080) however, do get a slight vibration in recorded sound that I didn't get with Garmin. Going to experiment with diffent placement to isolate if from car or camera. Overall great cam for the money. Purchased direct from Cobra.com and customer service was excellent. They offer similar cameras on AMAZON but preferred to stick with a brand I trust."

Does this replace my current cobra radar detector or work with it.
No, the SC 201 dash camera does not replace your radar detector as it is a separate piece of equipment with different functions. However, the SC 201 does connect via Bluetooth to our Drive Smarter app where you can receive shared and community radar alerts.

How much is the maximum memory sd card for camera support, I bought the cobra SC201
The SC 201 will take an SD card up to 256 GB. We recommend using a minimum Class 10 or U1 card from a reputable vendor.
