Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a "work" radio. I purchased this radio and installed in my work truck. I sent it back for warranty repair once already and now am having the same problem (display won't show any characters, only backlight). I have talked to a CB radio shop and they said too much vibration is likely the cause. When I sent it back the 1st time I bought a 29 classic as a temporary replacement and it has worked fine in the truck. It costs $30.00 to ship back to the factory so this is going to cost me $60.00 to repair a $99.00 ($129.00 with $30.00 rebate) radio. Not happy with this at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great radio I just had my cobra 29 lx lcd professionally installed on my FORD CROWN VICTORIA POLICE INTERCEPTOR on my glove box on the outside. The radio is too big to be installed under my dash, unless of course, tearing away my vital electronics on my panther. You have to understand when a police interceptor is retired from the fleet, all electronics are removed,IE, lightbar, radio and siren but the wiring is still alive and tempering with the live wiring might cause serious damage to the electrical system. The radio is reachable and I am able to

I just bought the Cobra 29 LX.  Have antenna tuned with SWR at .5 on 1, 20, and 40.  When I do the radio check mode it say RF Power Output Fail.  What is the problem and what do I need to do?

Asked by: Rough Rider
Sounds like an internal problem with that radio. You may exchange it at the place of purchase, send it to a Cobra Warranty center, or send it to Cobra directly for warranty service to the Chicago address on the box. Cobra Electronics Corp. Could I use a cb with an auxiliary cable and plug in the other end to the aux input of a car radio and be able to hear it with the car speakers?

Asked by: brantastic
Please note, Cobra CB radios have a 1/8" (mono) audio jack on the back where you may plug in external speaker(s). If your car stereo supports the feature you described, I don't see a problem with it. Otherwise, you may have to plug the car speakers directly into the back of CB. Are cb's in general able to be mounted on motorcycles and use it with a headset

Asked by: brantastic
Yes. All standard Cobra CB's have an 1/8" (mono) audio jack to connect an external speaker or headset, however, in order to transmit out the user must talk into the standard CB microphone included with the radio. An alternate option with similar power output is the Cobra Handheld model HH 38WXST available here: https://www.cobra.com/products/portable/hh-38-wx-st It allows both receive and transmit using this headset: https://www.cobra.com/products/cb-radio/pmr-ebm Some users incorporate it into the existing "Autocom" system on the motorcycle. What is the range of the cobra 29 lx with a good antenna?

Asked by: Tommyboy
Thank you for your interest in our products, we appreciate it. Please note, the range of a CB depends on the length and tuning of the antenna connected to it, the longer the better. All Cobra CB radios have the maximum legal (4W) power output. With a properly tuned 4 foot antenna, you should get a range of approximately 3 to 7 miles depending on the amount of physical obstructions and terrain around you. You could try restoring default settings in the menu by tapping once on the Big knob then turn it clockwise until you see "system setup", Tap it again to select that option, then turn it clockwise to "restore defaults", select yes and Tap it again to apply the changes. The radio will shut off and restart. Should the problem continue, please contact our Customer Care Group at 773 889 3087 for warranty service. Using 102" steel whip antennas. Of what significance or difference is length of coax; 18' verses 20'? Also using 50' on same as base antenna

Asked by: Old Teaberry
Based on CB antenna frequency wavelength, the standard (RG-58) coax length on a single antenna is 18'. Two more feet should not make much difference. However, installations requiring over 20 feet of cable, a different impedance, (low loss coax RG8) is recommended.
