What is CB?
Citizens Band radio (CB) is a 2-way voice communication system for personal use for the general public. It lets you talk from your truck, car, home, business, or boat to other people who have a CB radio. Technically, a CB radio is a transceiver. It functions both as a radio transmitter (when sending messages) and a receiver (when receiving messages). Citizens Band radio was created by the FCC in 1958. There are as total of 40 channels on the CB band. Channel 19 is unofficially regarded as a general-purpose channel to make contacts and listen to conversations and reports of traffic and road conditions. Channel 9 is reserved for emergency communications.
Do I need a license to operate a CB?
No license is required. The FCC used to issue licenses for CBs, but they discontinued that requirement many years ago.

"I purchased one on these years ago. I'm very familiar with installing CBs overall in general. Straight out the box couldn't get the radio to work properly. After much back and forth with technical support was advised to send it in. Short time later got it back with a note - no attempt to repair. Reasoning was liquid damage to internals of radio. This was a new radio right out the box from a TA truckstop. Pricey loss."
"Truly appreciate the features on this Cobra 29LX. The backlit screen color options are very nice. Signals from the NOAA in my area come through Crystal clear. Local CB Traffic, meh, its like anywhere else, mostly annoying but at least I can pick it up with this nice radio. I have it paired right now to a Wilson 1000 magnet mount with a 5' whip. Microphone is clean and comfortable. All in all, very happy with the purchase. Thanks Cobra!"

"This is a new instal all new equipment from radio to ant. Biggest piece of junk I have ever wasted money on. Two days after purchase can't hear the sound (very scratchy even with ext. speaker) won't transmit very good (was told people couldn't hear what I was saying) replaced mic same thing now has power failure. I got better service out of the old roadking I had!! I have called Cobra just to get no results!!!!! I WILL NOT PURCHASE OR OWN ANOTHER COBRA PRODUCT!!!"
