Cobra Electronics Recognizes National Stop On Red Week With Innovations in Radar Detection and Location-Based Alert Technology
Cobra Electronics Corporation (NASDAQ: COBR), a leading designer and marketer of award-winning safety, mobile and consumer electronics, today recognizes National Stop on Red Week, a week dedicated to reducing the incidence of red light running in the United States and the fatalities and injuries it causes. With a company history in developing breakthroughs in radar detection and location-based alert technology, Cobra reminds drivers everywhere that the real-time traffic and warning information and other advanced driving safety and awareness features offered by its award winning Cobra iRadar® ATOM™ smart detection system can drastically reduce the occurrence of red light running accidents and fatalities. National Stop on Red Week takes place nationally August 4–10, 2013.
National Stop on Red Week is dedicated on educating the public on the dangers of red-light running while bringing visibility to this serious traffic problem. According to its website, the campaign aims to better inform the public about the gravity of red light running and the hazards of this action. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), in 2011 an estimated 118,000 people were injured in crashes that involved red light running. With the onslaught of Cobra iRadar technology and the alerts it brings, the company has worked to lessen incidences of running red lights and ultimately becoming more aware of when to reduce speed.
The iRadar ATOM is a breakthrough in class-leading radar detection performance that provides enhanced driver awareness behind the wheel while delivering 360 degree road alerts and information. By pairing with its proprietary Cobra iRadar app, available in both iOS and Android versions, the iRadar ATOM gives users a variety of safety alerts and features including real-time audio and visual warnings of upcoming speed and red light cameras, caution areas, dangerous intersections and live police locations, ensuring drivers are aware of the road and the red lights around them. By providing drivers with real-time information and alerts on the road, the iRadar ATOM instills maximum awareness behind the wheel, as well as the benefit of knowing when to reduce speed for approaching red lights.
Along with these real-time alerts, the iRadar app features a map view of the road with color-coded alerts displayed as red, yellow or green, depending on the threat level of the alert. The app also keeps drivers informed and aware of road conditions with access to live traffic information, audible maximum speed warning alerts, low car voltage alerts and more.
“National Stop on Red Week is a great opportunity for us to further our mission in promoting automotive safety and awareness,” said Sally Washlow, president of Cobra Electronics. “Through the development of innovations in location based alerts and radar detection, we have the opportunity during this dedicated week of red light awareness and throughout the year to promote behind-the-wheel safety and prevent accidents by providing drivers with critical information and alerts while driving, as well as reminders to slow down before approaching red lights and dangerous intersections.”
