JoyRide was also recently awarded second place in the Automotive & Safe Driving Mobile Apps category of CTIA’s annual Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards competition, which honors the most innovative new wireless products in 15 categories spanning the areas of mobile apps, consumer electronics, enterprise and infrastructure.

“Smartphones have forever changed and improved life for most of us, and they offer many valuable benefits in an automotive setting, yet it’s a fact that they can be a dangerous distraction when you’re behind the wheel,” said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. “We’re committed to addressing this challenge with innovative products for consumers and professional drivers that add value and enjoyment to the driving experience, while improving driver safety and minimizing distractions. Cobra JoyRide is one such product, and all of us at Cobra Electronics are proud to be honored by Techlicious as the best safety product at the 2012 CTIA conference.”

Cobra JoyRide for Android™ is an intelligent car charging system for smartphones that simplifies phone usage and minimizes the distractions while behind the wheel. It is designed to easily customize the way the owner’s smartphone behaves when entering and exiting their vehicle by automatically reconfiguring the phone for in-car usage. The companion Android app communicates with the JoyRide Charger and opens up a host of possibilities for personalizing and streamlining in-car smartphone usage. JoyRide dramatically enhances automotive safety since pushing a single button on the 12V charger can initiate phone calls, launch voice commands, share information about road hazards and live police, pause and play music, and even launch GPS navigation apps or other favorite in-car applications. The Cobra JoyRide application can also save the GPS position of the owner’s vehicle on the Android phone and help them navigate back to their parking spot.

“Plugging your phone in to charge when you get behind the wheel of your car is a no-brainer,” says Suzanne Kantra, founder and editor-in-chief of Techlicious. “The Cobra JoyRide charger also makes your phone safer and more convenient to use.”
