Jim Bazet, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Jim Bazet is a seasoned executive and turnaround advisor with experience in a variety of consumer product industries. During the past 20 years, he has engineered and managed more than a dozen successful turnarounds. His proven track record in corporate renewals spans a variety of global industries in the U.S., Canada, Asia and Europe. He has often served as chief executive for his clients.

Jim is currently chairman and chief executive officer of Cobra Electronics. Under his leadership, the company was named one of the Best 200 Small Companies in America in both 2000 and 2001 by Forbes magazine.

Prior to joining Cobra, Jim served as chief executive for other well-known consumer products companies such as Ryobi America and Code-A-Phone Corporation. He holds a bachelor of science in Finance from Nicholls State University in Louisiana.

In 2002, he was honored as Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young for the Greater Lake Michigan area, and was inducted into the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Hall of Fame in November of 2002. Today he serves as a judge for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year organization. Jim also serves as a member of the board of governors of the Electronics Industries Alliance and as a member of the board of directors of the Consumer Electronics Association.

He continues his turnaround activities by providing strategic advice to middle market companies through participation as a director or advisory council member.

 

Tony Mirabelli, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales

A seasoned sales and marketing veteran with more than 30 years in the consumer electronics industry, Tony Mirabelli has held the position of senior vice president, marketing and sales for Cobra since February 1997. Prior to that, he served as vice president of marketing for Cobra starting in 1989.

From 1992 to 1997, Tony was the vice president of marketing for Uniden America Corporation, located in Fort Worth, Texas. He also has held senior-level marketing, sales and product management positions with electronics companies such as Beltone Electronics Corporation, NEC Home Electronics, Quasar Company, Bell & Howell Company and Zenith Electronics.

Tony has served as a member of the board of directors for the Consumer Electronics Industry Association and has also held the position of vice president of R.A.D.A.R., a Washington-based lobbying group. He received his education from Illinois Institute of Technology and DePaul University in Chicago.

 

Michael Smith, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Michael Smith has held the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer for Cobra since 2001. His primary responsibilities include managing financial affairs including accounting, corporate finance, Securities and Exchange Commission reporting and compliance and investor relations.

Prior to joining Cobra, Michael was the managing director of corporate finance for Mesirow Financial, Inc. In addition, he has held senior-level management and finance positions with companies including Buccino & Associates, Inc., Ernst & Whinney, Alberto-Culver Company, Kwikasair Express, Inc., and A.T. Kearney, Inc.

 

Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Miami and a master’s degree in business administration with a finance specialization from George Washington University.
