Cobra Electronics’ New Radar Detection Product Line Provides
a More Complete Picture of the Road Ahead
Cobra Electronics Announces 2009 Radar Line Offering More Options to Access Cobra’s Verified Database of Speed and Red Light Cameras
LAS VEGAS (November 4, 2008) — Chicago-based Cobra Electronics (NASDAQ: COBR) today announced the launch of its new high performance 2009 radar line. With its super-fast detection circuitry, the new line offers drivers long-range protection from all radar and laser guns across North America, and it includes six units compatible with Cobra’s GPS-based speed and red light camera database. The database contains locations of speed and red light cameras that are 100 percent verified. The locations are compiled from city transportation and police departments as well as other sources throughout North America.
In addition to the alerts, products using the GPS locator offer additional clarity as to what’s ahead on the road such as the following:
· IntelliScope™ shows the direction of GPS-based alerts – a Cobra first
· IntelliView™ provides a picture-in-picture view of simultaneous GPS and radar/laser alerts, as well as a color-coded intensity indicator depending on the proximity of the GPS alert.
· The driver can add up to 1,000 location-based alerts, in addition to the locations included in the database
· A programmable speed alert notifies the driver when his preset speed limit is exceeded.
The GPS locator enabling speed and red light camera alerts is the size of a flash drive and plugs into the USB port on the main unit. Sold with two of the six database-compatible units and optional on the others, the locator easily plugs into any internet-ready PC for downloads of the latest database updates.
“With the 2009 radar line, Cobra has continued to reinvent the radar category,” said Tony Mirabelli, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra. “These driver information devices offer the high performance expected of a leader in the radar space, but with features focusing on roadway awareness and safety.”
The XRS R10G and R8 feature an easy-to-install IntelliLink™ wireless remote control and 15-Band™ detection. Its full-color 1-inch Extreme Bright DataGrafix™ OLED display offers alert screens such as car battery voltage, signal strength and an eight-point digital compass. With the main detector unit mounted behind the rearview mirror at the top of the windshield, the unit’s field of view is greater allowing for increased performance and a stealth appearance to deter theft. These units also offer Cobra’s Super-Xtreme Range Superheterodyne (S-XRS)™ technology, ensuring super-fast detection of the fastest radar and laser guns.
The XRS 9960G and 9955 build off of last year’s flagship model with the increased performance and innovative features representative of the new line. As the first and only company offering an OLED display, Cobra has incorporated the new Extreme Bright DataGrafix™ II full-color display into a number of units, including the 9960G and 9955. Their 1.5-inch screens can be customized with five different color schemes to match the driver’s dash illumination. The units also offer the proprietary speed and red light camera database – standard with the 9960G and optional with the 9955 – as well as S-XRS technology and 15-Band detection, standard on both units.
In addition to the products’ enhanced performance and added benefits, several units in the new line offer Cobra firsts such as Voice Alert™, which clearly annunciates signals and alerts being detected; IntelliMute®, a programmable speed sensing auto mute system that reduces false alerts; SmartPower™ to automatically shut off the unit when the vehicle’s ignition is turned off; and Cobra exclusives Safety Alert® and Strobe Alert®, which alert the driver of approaching emergency vehicles and select road hazards.
Beyond the flagship R10G and 9960G, Cobra is also introducing upgrades to its previous line of detectors with price points ranging from $59.95 to $339.95 to suit every driver’s need.
Along with its maximum performance XRS radar line, Cobra’s citizens band radios and other mobile electronics products will be on display at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, November 4-7 in the North Hall, booth # 10953, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
